There are few times in life when my heart and soul feel totally free. Painting, for me, is one of those times.

A love for art and all things beautiful runs in my blood. Both of my grandmothers, Bitsy Irby and Bonnie Thornhill, had a love for the arts. Belhaven University's Visual Art and Dance Building is named after my grandmother, Bitsy. My "Nonnie" (Bonnie) loved to paint and enjoyed many art lessons throughout her life. While I was trying to figure out my college major (for the tenth time), Nonnie said to me, "I just don't know why you aren't doing art". Needless to say, something inside of me is drawn to that world and I have a deep desire to be creative.

When I take a blank canvas and begin a new journey, I rarely have a plan. I allow my artistic intuition to guide the process.

I enjoy abstract which color, or its absence, SPEAKS to the viewer. The beauty of the world is enhanced through various colors. I embrace all of them, from the brightest pink to the most subtle gray, and I ALWAYS love metallics!

I hope that my paintings will offer beauty into the lives of others.
